Bagpipe Tune Of The Month For The Royal Scots Polka
October 17, 2008
Hello

I have chosen the tune The Royal Scots Polka for this mailing. It was composed by Pipe Major Willie Denholm, The Royal Scots.

One of my friends Greg Wilson has won the prestigious Northern Meeting 2008 premier piobaireachd Clasp event (the second time he has won the Clasp). He also won at that Meeting the 2008 March, Strathspey and Reel event.

Greg is well known in piping circles and manufactures reeds. Have a look at his website Wilson Reeds to view his profile.

Another New Zealander who did well was Fiona Manson, (now living in Scotland) in coming fifth in the Gold Medal at the same meeting.

Congratulations to both of you.

Wishing you all the best and Happy Piping.
Bill Robertson

PS - A New Website - School Of Piping:
Pipe Major Brett Tidswell has recently started a website called School Of Piping. Brett has put together some great and interesting articles and resources. He will be publishing shortly, a hand book called The Complete Pipers Handbook . Brett states that it is the most comprehensive guide to setting up and maintaining a bagpipe that has ever been written.

PPS - Pipeline BBC, Radio Scotland:
Radio Scotland have a weekly broadcast called Pipeline. There website has the following statement, "The definitive pipe music program, featuring news and recordings from the piping world". CLICK HERE to go to the Pipeline web site

The program changes each week at the weekend and lasts just under the hour. Normally it contains quite a lot of mainly good solo piping (sometimes other that Highland), some bands, news, and featured extracts from top contests both solo and band shortly after the events. Some pipers have rather too high a pitch and as a result a thin sound, and odd lapses in rhythm etc., which we all have some more than others. Still, we can all learn from perceptive listening.
