The Highland Piping Scociety Of Canterbury
The Highland Piping Society of Canterbury is widely regarded as New Zealand's most successful piping society. It counts among its members and guest pipers many who have distinguished themselves in the world of piping and pipe band work. This comprehensive and readable 204-page history covers the society's fifty years and highlights matters of particular interest:
  • Scottish culture in "English" Canterbury.

  • Growth of Canterbury piping & pipe bands.

  • Promoting the piobaireachd heritage.

  • 102 Piper biographies.

  • 142 Illustrations, mostly unpublished

  • An impressive coverage of international piping personalities.

  • 5 appendixes of society personnel, guest pipers, prize winners.

  • A 950-entry index of people, bands and piping organisations.

The authors are long-time personal friends well-known in piping and band circles, and the only two survivors of the Piping Society's 1960 founding committee.

The publication retails for NZ$35 plus postage.

Thank you all for the book I received recently.

I find it to be very interesting and a worthwhile record not just of the society but for piping in New Zealand and overseas with such wealth of information that includes much on some of the most famous pipers of the recent past and today. The book is so well presented and produced right from the feeling of the lovely hard cover and to the contents.

I think that the book would make a fine addition to any piper’s library or collection, here and abroad, especially at such a reasonable price.

Well done!
All the best,

Bill Robertson
