Bill has much to offer Piobaireachd (Pibroch) enthusiast. His Pibroch compositions have been recognized and published in various Piobaireachd books and he has also recorded over a hundred Piobaireachd tutorials as well.

Bill's teaching style is unique. He does not play the tune through one time and then tell you how to play it. Rather he breaks the tune down into sections and talks you through one section at a time. By doing this you can work at learning to play the piobaireachd tune section by section. This makes it a whole lot easier for you!

Wow, this takes me back. Great instruction. You remind me very much of my first instructor, who became like a father to me. God rest his kind and generous soul.

He was from Aberdeen. Thank you for the video, although it brings a tear to my eye, it also brings back some of my fondest memories. Cheers!

...The DVD also has audio files, video files, and pdf's of some tunes in addition to what is in the tutors. If you read the lessons off your computer, you can click on links to audio and video files relevant to the lesson. Most tutors are aimed at the beginner piper. After that, most of us are at the mercy of the skills of our instructors in learning how to interpret tunes. Robertson's Comprehensive tutor has extensive written information and extensive audio files that explain and demonstrate many useful pointers about the correct interpretation of all the kinds of marches, airs, strathspey's, reels, hornpipes, jigs, and had material on piobaireachd that I haven't had time to go through yet. I think there is a wealth of information on this DVD for both the student and for the instructor who wants to improve instructional skills. The approach is pretty traditional, with no modern kitchen piping type stuff - but is great for building a solid understanding of how tunes should be played, and common pitfalls that many experienced pipers make...

... know I am beginning to sound like a broken record, but I can't thank you enough for the time and effort you have put into your tutorials. You have done a singular service for the piping world of inestimable value. Personally I can only thank you and hope that the piping world gives you the thanks and recognition for this body of work that you so richly deserve. The clarity of the instruction continues to astound me.

The original first edition book with audio tapes of the advanced Great Highland Bagpipe, a Comprehensive Guide 1998 by Pipe Major WA Robertson
Reviewed by the late Donald Bain of Temuka, Multiple Gold Medalist

No one who experienced the performance of Auckland and District (Innes Tartan) Pipe Band in the late 60's and 70's would doubt the credentials of Bill Robertson to produce a publication such as this. The tone, technique and expression of that was refreshing and raised the standard of pipe band music to a level not previously heard in New Zealand ...

This not a basic tutor, but to quote from page 1 "the intention is to show pipers who have reasonable ability how to improve rhythm, controlled expression (style) and clarity of techniques."

Nothing is left to chance; all facts of bagpipe maintenance, tuning, technique, rhythm and performance are covered. It only remains for the individual to add his or her personal color to produce optimum potential effect. But as we who have experience teaching piping know, aptitude is important but attitude is more so...

"I have studied the book and tapes in detail. I am very impressed with your attention to detail and explanation of technique - not been a book like this before"
- Andrew Wright (Champion Piper)
