Keeping the Pipe Major's stripes

by Jim
(Canada)

If a pipe major resigned/retired because he was moving away and then returns, can he keep his stripes?

He is back with the band he once was the Pipe Major of.

I should say not. Pipe Major is an appointment, not a rank. I am fairly certain there can only be one P/M of a band at a time?

Hello Jim,
The answer is that if the P/M resigned etc., then returned to the band, he would have to apply or be proposed at a meeting of the band/committee to be re-appointed or not.
I trust that helps.
Regards,
Bill
