The Laird Of Contullich's Lament

There is uncertainty about the inspiration for this The Laird Of Contullich's Lament. However, the weight of opinion suggests that it is a MacCrimmon composition, in the lifetime of Padruig Mor MacCrimmon.

If such is the case, the tune probably laments the death of a grandson of Sir Ruaridh Mor MacLeod of Harris and Dunvegan. Ruaridh Mor’s third son was Sir Norman MacLeod of Bernera. It was Sir Norman's eldest son John who was known as the Laird of Contullich, an estate in Rossshire. In his time, John MacLeod was well known as a patron of piping.
