Young Laird Of Dungallon' Salute

The composer of Young Laird Of Dungallon' Salute is unknown. The tune is said to have been composed on the birth of an heir. The Laird of Dungallon, Sunart, was of a cadet branch of the Lochiel (Cameron) family. A translation of a remnant verse of a Gaelic poem written on the occasion goes something like this:

Dungallon has a little heir May we see him in good health collecting rent Dungallon has a little heir May we see him sound, may we see him in health.

The wish didn't help, the young Laird died unmarried when barely into his twenties.
