Setup For Online Bagpipe Lessons

Below please find some advice for you to be able to take advantage of the Learn Bagpipes Online feature.
  • The first thing you will need is to have a high speed internet connection.
  • The second thing you will need is to install SKYPE software on your computer.
  • The third thing you will need is a WebCam with an inbuilt microphone. We recommend the Logitech brand. Bill uses a Logitech QuickCam Orbit Pro, it has auto focus and tracking which is a nice feature to use.
  • If you do not use a WebCam the a desktop microphone will suffice. Logitech have an excellent one as well.

Recording Your Bagpipe Lessons

We recommend you use Audacity to record your bagpipe lessons. It is a free program that has some very good features. Once you have saved the file it is always available for revision purposes.

Any good audio recording software would be suitable, however Bill recomends that you use Audacity.

Using Audacity To Export Your File In MP3 Format

Audacity does not have the ability to save your file in MP3 format. You have to export it in MP3 file format. In order to do this you need to use LAME encoder to export MP3 files.

If you do not need to export your recording as a MP3 you can save your recording using the default file type for Audacity.

Click here for instructions to download and install Lame MP3 Encoder

This website has an excellent Audacity Tutorials.
