The Royal Scots Cap Badge

Robert Brown

by Iain Grant
(Edinburgh.U.K)

I knew Robert Brown very well ..lovely man who lived in the Gorgie area of Edinburgh,he was a prolific composer of tunes always had bunch of tunes in his overcoat pocket...a small man with bushy grey hair and eyebrows..!! he was a regular at the Eagle Pipers, held in the West End Hotel in Edinburgh....it runs in my mind that his late wife had a hand in this tune ...the other tune which goes along with this tune is "The 1st Argylls at Venice",I believe were a joint effort. It is thought that Robert was in the Lovat Scouts...!!!,indeed a character....never forget him...

Thank you Iain and good to know about the composer. The Royal Scots were also caught in Singapore WWII.
When directing my old band here some good years ago, Auckland and Distict -- we played 1st Agylls at Venice, a nice 3/4.
Mention of the Eagles Club reminds of my friend P/M George Stoddart (quite a character) from my Army days. I believe George was involved with the Club.
Mention of the Gordon Highlanders reminds me that Willie Cruickshank down here in NZ is bearing well with his Parkinsons that is getting worse, yet maintaining his usual brightness.
His father you might know was P/M George Cruickshank of the Gordons.
Regards,
Bill
