Mrs. Smith's Salute

The lady that Mrs. Smith's Salute honors is shrouded in mystery. It is known that she was a Highland lady who moved to Taymouth, a haunt of John Ban for a period in his life.

It is also known that this handsome, strapping piper had a reputation as a ladies man. However, Alasdair Hunter in a biographic article wrote that John Ban was a very religious man who controlled his passions despite the constant flirting of ladies carried away by his good looks crowned by flowing blonde hair.

All that can be said is that Mrs. Smith must have been very special to have a piobaireachd dedicated to her.

Mrs. Smith's Salute was composed by John Ban MacKenzie.
