Lament For The Bobs Of Balmoral

The late Pipe Major Donald MacLeod M.B.E., Lewis, composed Lament For The Bobs Of Balmoral. It is a wonderfully fine piobaireachd to honour the memory of Robert Nicol and Robert Urquhart Brown.

The two Bobs were ghillies on the Balmoral estate of King George V. They were sent by King George to John MacDonald, Inverness, for advanced piobaireachd training. They learned well and became outstanding pipers, both winning Gold and Clasps at the Northern Meeting, Inverness.

Donald himself was a pupil of John MacDonald over a period of 25 years.
