MacDonalds Salute

MacDonalds Salute was composed by Donald Mor MacCrimmon, on the occasion of the celebration of the reconciliation of the MacLeods and MacDonalds two years after the Battle of Cuillen in Skye, 1601.

Donald Gorm MacDonald of Sleat was invited to join Ruaridh Mor MacLeod of Harris and Dunvegan at Dunvegan Castle to celebrate the peace. When Donald Gorm arrived he was met by MacLeod's Piper, Donald Mor MacCrimmon, who welcomed him by playing this Salute, a tune composed for the occasion.

The feasting was went on for three weeks. Many of the Hebridian and mainland Nobles, Chieftains and important landholders joined in the celebration.
